Blood Diamond (2006)
Why is diamond a girl’s best friend? Whatever reason she may give you, if you can’t afford a solitaire for her, just rent this video and have her watch it with you. During the film, while your girlfriend is sobbing during the heartfelt scene, just say… “dear, I love you - but I know you don’t want to hurt Kunta Kinte’s family for your own happiness — let’s just get a simple ring, okay?” She’d just nod and hug you really hard.

Before watching Blood Diamond, I didn’t know what conflicted diamonds are. And though I heard rumors of diamond corporations around the world horde diamonds in order to keep the prices up, I wasn’t exactly sure of such fact. Movies like Blood Diamond not only entertains, it also educates. To summarize the story quickly - a fisherman found a gigantic diamond (priceless), and a smuggler must help the fisherman recover his family in order to get his hands on it and save himself in the process. There’s a lot more to it, but the story was easy to follow with well written script and a really solid cast. I don’t really want to get into the nitty gritty - so I’d just end with that I highly recommend the movie - but it wasn’t kickass enough to leave me breathless.
