How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
In 2005, I saw Carrey’s Fun with Dick and Jane and at that time, I thought Carrey is over his prime ~ his funny man tactics just aren’t working anymore and he can’t cut it in the acting world because his face is naturally born unserious like. In How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Carrey plays a Who named Grinch. Though Carrey’s was under layers of makeup and dress, his inability to act out anything serious is evident as the sun.
Grinch tells the story about how Grinch got into the town of Whoville and how he came to hate Christmas with a passion. There’s a couple songs here and there, and quite a few annoying things like the weird noses — but it’s the Christmas message that’s important for this movie. Family.
Yup, family - not presents! Grinch teaches us a card you spent designing and write on, means a lot more than a Hallmark card bought at the store for $3.99. So other than the message of family, I really disliked the movie ~ it just felt so artificial, I think the human interest disappeared beneath all the snow and cold.
