Soylent Green (1973)
I forgot what I saw that prompted me to queue this up amongst the movies that I wanted to see, but I suppose it must be something to do with food. Maybe McRib sandwiches…? Maybe it’s maybe of the same things as Soylent Green?! Cause… everyone wants some Soylent Green!!
In an *very* overpopulated New York City of the future, fresh food and water are rare commodities reserved only for the super rich. People must be fed, and to that end, an International food provider came up with the Soylent product line: Soylent Yellow, Soylent Red, and the latest, Soylent Green! Each type provided the essential nutrient required and well, people love the flavor of Soylent Green! Hell, people riot over Soylent Green!
In a disturbing look at the possible future we face as we continue the endless extortion of Earth’s limited resources, Soylent Green came out pretty strongly. It certainly was a hit back in 1973, and probably made people thought twice about what they put into their own mouth. I won’t spoil the movie, so it’s up to you to find out all about Soylent Green - though I’m a bit ambivalent about the movie, I think it’s worth the time to check it out if you can get it for free! After all, it’s not often that women are treated as furniture in a movie … heh.
