Coach Carter (2005)
Coach Carter is a high school inner-city sport movie. So, we can expect a few things — 1) all the players have no sense of team work and does not do well in school 2) they have no motivation 3) the school system sucks 4) the coach will turn it all around. That’s the gist of the movie. It didn’t stray from the paradigm - I don’t think it could have if it wanted to though.
I don’t have much to say about the film - Coach Carter cared about the students and what happens to them after high school. He knows they won’t be in the NBA draft pick, so he made them understand such and push them toward being a student first, athlete second. That’s really the message of the whole movie — but what Coach Carter didn’t mention, is a college degree doesn’t get you much these days either.
