Lecture 17 (08/30/2006 Wednesday)
Four classes in a single day, how exciting is this?! Well, BioChem didn’t really count I guess since we just took a 10 minute quiz and that was it.
BioChem
- Dr. Schreiber
- Topic: First BioChem Quiz
Summary: 8 questions, a bit tricky!
Radiology
- Dr. Mardini
- Power Point Handout for Notes
- Topic: Biological Effect of Radiation, deterministic, stochastic, direct/indirect action
Summary: I was asleep mostly… but we went over types of radiation, how dose of exposure is measured, and then the effects of the radiation and the outcome.
Physiology
- Dr. Levy
- Lecture Notes
- Topic: Synapse, Neurotransmitters, Cleft, End Plate Potential, Synaptobrevin, Synaptotagmin, Post/Pre-synaptic site, Excitatory/Inhibitory Post-Synaptic Potential, Neuro-musculo junction
Summary: It’s all about the synapses today ~ how neuron take an electrical signal, convert it into chemical signal, then back to electrical signal. Basically, the depolarization of pre-synaptic site would cause influx of Ca++ which when binding to the two synapto-protein, would cause the fusing of vesicle and subsequent release of NTs. The NTs will then cross the cleft and bind to the receptor at post-synaptic site at a ligand-gated sodium & potassium channel, which would then cause depolarization and with enough summation, an action potential.
Evidence Based Dentistry
- Dr. Farsai
- Power Point on CourseInfo
- Topic: History of Evidence Based Dentistry
Summary: Did not deviate from the power point and no additional info to add. Evidence based dentistry is good, that’s about it.
