Click (2006)
I think having the “right” cast for a movie is essential for its success. Click suffers from poor casting - and I’ll tell you why right now: Kate Beckinsale cannot convincingly play the part of a normal household mother. She is simply too $(#@&!%(& hot. Without an absurb amount of makeup, like what Charlize Theron did in Monster, Beckinsale’s beauty is simply too much for a movie like Click. It’s not to say the movie isn’t good ~ I find its message to be a great (a bit cliche?)… but yeah… Beckinsale is just too sexy.
Adam Sandler plays the part of Michael Newman. Michael leads a pretty tough life and there are somethings he wish he could just zip by and not pay attention to. Things like showering, dressing, foreplay, sickness, family dinners, working, etc - he wants to skip by them all and just enjoy the fruits of his glory! Lo and behold, an angel of death awards him with a remote control that allows him to control Mike’s universe ~ and then things get out of control when the remote control remembers the Mike’s preference and start fast forwarding/skipping chapters for him.
So the movie is like The Family Man, It’s a Wonderful Life, Christmas … something, and all the other movies that tell you - living your life is important; it’s not the end that matters, but the journey! There were quite a few touching scenes; however, Sandler wasn’t able to portray emotions as deeply as other actors could’ve in my opinion. He is in too far as a comedian for me to really tear up at the circumstances. I also didn’t want to identify myself within the circumstances (I knew where it’s going and I didn’t feel like crying). It’s an emotional movie, and it’ll get to you if you let it. Thus, it was a good movie with a strong script even if the casting could’ve been done better! I recommend seeing this with your close family to really get the lacrimal glands going ^_^
