March of the Penguins (2005)
“In the harshest place on Earth, love finds a way” is one way to put how the Emperor Penguins have survived in the Antarctica for millennias ~ as a scientist, it’s more like, “In the harshest place on Earth, survival of the fittest rears its ugly face amongst the cutest of animals!”… or something.
It’s a documentary about March of the Penguins (literally!), voiced by Morgan Freeman ~ because it’s Morgan Freeman, it’s the kickass. The penguins waddle very adorably, and we learn about their life cycle of these amazing birdies. First, they must mate once a year, at the center of whatever area they’re around. That means, for some, waddling 70 miles to the mating ground is necessary. Then, they begin a dance to find the right mate - no scientist know how they go about doing this, but they do. Finally, after mating, they sit around until the egg is birthed and laying at the mama’s feet. That’s when the shuffling and danger begins.
It’s quite a ride really, watching these penguins taking care of the eggs and raising their youngs. Each penguin devote their life to the next generation, and go crazy if they fail! The documentary, is really one of the best I’ve seen about animals in general ~ and much more sentimental than norm I suppose. I enjoyed watching the March, and would recommend it to anyone of all age!
