Dental Scholarship obtained!
After jumping around in almost complete nudity in front of people, peeing in front of a trained eye, getting my blood drawn, going to the hospital for records, scared shitless from insane doorbell at the fire station, and other little unimportant things, it’s not official! Two days ago, I got a call from Sgt Demeter and he informed me that I have been selected for the Air Force Dental Scholarship Program!
The relief I felt was incredible ~ he actually woke me up since I was so busy writing and playing G.R.A.W. (full FAQ completed last night too). I didn’t really celebrate though, but knowing exactly what I’ll be doing for the next 8 years is a wonderful feeling for me! As for the schools, I sent NYU a letter of declination… they should be pleased with the 500 dollars non-refundable deposit. And BU got the whole 3000 dollars non-refundable deposit. For a while, I was firm in my happiness that I’ll be a frozen popiscle for the next 4 years, but now, that’s changing slightly.
USC just contacted me earlier this week, inviting me for an interview. I picked this Friday since I’m on Spring Break. So what’s gonna happen now? If USC decided that I’m an acceptable applicant after the interview, I’ll be ditching 3000 dollars! But what if they decide MUCH later? For BU students, there is an EXCEL 2006 program - an orientation to get students ready for the 1st year dental school. If I don’t sign up for it, I’ll be missing out. If I do sign up for it, and get into the dorms for a month, there’ll be a lot of trouble if USC tells me I’m welcome to their school then. Argh! It’s all jumbled up! Why can’t all the schools send out decisions on the same dates?!
Whatever the case, Air Force will pay for it - so that’s all good. Planned a trip to LA and will be flying out tomorrow morning at 7. I’m a bit scared of USC as well, due to their “innovative Problem Based Learning” teaching scheme. Basically, a student learns with classmates with professors there just to lightly guide you along. I might like it ~ dunno till I see it this Friday I guess.
