Lab 08

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Today, we did our presentation on Ischemic Heart Disease. Even though I was sick like a dog, I went up and presented! Well, I feel fine, just that I coughed so much it was difficult to talk. After the presentation, I just left… didn’t stay to do the lab work at all.

Lab 09

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Lab 09 begin the 4 step synthesis where we’d go from benzaldehyde and take it to… some ungodly compound that I don’t know what it is.
The first step is certainly easy – we call it benzoin condensation. All we had to do was reflux benzaldehyde with thiamine hydrochloride for like an hour, vaccuum [...]

The First Emergency Room Visit

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

I don’t think I ever went into ER for anything… not that I can recall anyway. With my insurance card in my pocket, I went in with bubbly excitement. After registration, they quickly took my vital, and was amazed when they got a read of 104.8. The nurse visibly moved slightly [...]

Sickness resolved… kind of.

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

At around 7ish last night, an hour after I took Advil, I breathed a sigh of relief with my temperature finally dipping below 105 and I drift off into another feverish sleep that lasted two hours. When I woke, my temperature was still around 103, but I wasn’t too worried, I felt fine, no [...]

Lab 08 – Midterm

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Lab 08 is genetics lab midterm! It was a fair test… a lot of calculations and words. I didn’t really study for it, but I think I did well enough even though I was a pretty damn sick bastard with 104 fever!

I’m sick, very very sick.

Sunday, October 16th, 2005

I was going to update the blog this weekend with all the happenings, but I got rather sick after 3 am EST on Saturday. I’m running a temperature of 104.2 on average now – room is spinning, and all I want to do is sleep. Ahh, what a waste of a fine weekend. [...]

Lab 07 – Midterm

Friday, October 14th, 2005

The Lab Midterm was as difficult as I thought it’s going to be. I did feel as prepared as I could be. Unfortunately, 2 weeks after and we still haven’t gotten the midterm back yet. Bastards!

Lab 08

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

For Lab 08, we made banana oil. It’s a simple Fischer Esterification where we take isopentyl alcohol and react it with glacial acetic acid to form isopentyl acetate! It’s a rather boring lab where the majority of the lab was spent refluxing the dang banana oil. It sure did stink like banana [...]

Lab 07

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

Lab 07 was paper chromatography on the Drosophila melanogaster’s eye color protein. Apparently, the eyes of the drosphila have proteins called pteridines, and there are 7 of them that can be separated via paper chromatography.
So, the lab had us take different mutant flies, decapitate the head of them flies – and crush the head [...]

Chinese Box (1997)

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

I fell asleep at least 4 times watching this movie, and had to rewatch so many parts just to piece everything together. The love triangle here reminds me of anime love triangels, except we got British people involved – and they’re always a funky sort. This film is incredibly difficult (literally) for me [...]

Superhandz Insanity!

How do you know when people got too much time on their hands? When they can do crazy things *with* their hands. Check this video out ~

You know the new google.com homepage dealio? I got the “How to do Stuff” on that page, and wanted to learn how to “Spin a pencil [...]

Update on Life 10/08/05

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

So.. why the hell have I been doing? Skipping classes, and not doing much of anything except gorge on movies, what’s up with that? Well, after the movies, I guess I started feeling a weebit sick and weird… the week before wasn’t exactly crazy, but it was really tiring. It was [...]

Flight of the Navigator (1986)

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

A long time ago, I watched a movie which reminded me of this movie … couldn’t remember the title then, but a quick thread on GameFAQs’s movie forum got me the answer I wanted. Flight of the Navigator is one of the silliest movie I’ve seen in quite sometimes. It’s even more [...]

Lab 06

Friday, October 7th, 2005

It’s the same formula once again – a quiz that’s nearly impossible (where did they find these crazy questions from?! I practically memorized all the lab readings! I must start reading from the books to get a happy grade…)
Then, the lecture on human muscles and how they move and etc. Then, presentation [...]

Lab 07

Friday, October 7th, 2005

Making soap is quite fun! It’s really an easy process, except maybe the reflux is a bit funky and I doubt incorporated in the ancient days. Basically, we got some NaOH, and Crisco lard – mix, boil, and bam! SOAP! Incredible =) I think my soap turned out well, since all [...]
