Lecture 12

Today in class, we learned that Ohno dabbles in genetic determination whenever she isn’t obsessed about cosplaying.

Lecture Notes

Summary:

In humans, the presence of Y determines if you’re male or female. The number of X chromosomes don’t matter, since they get turned off even if you have 4 of them. The presence of two X chromosomes, and one being arbitarily turned off causes chimera symptoms in women. eg, they can have one boob bigger than the other depending on which X chromosome is active in which boob.

I'm kidding

A famous example is Calico Cat and how the different X chromosomes would cause them to have pretty patches of fur of different colors. Oh, we talked about sex-linked genes and its pedigree. Lastly, we talked about how some sadist named Calvin Bridges tried to mate little mutant flies together.
